Mission Statement

To quote Dr. Martin Luther King: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is what are you doing for others?”

Missouri Westerns State University’s new Center for Service that is launching in the Fall of 2020 has been created with a purpose to serve others by connecting students with the community where they live, work and go to school. The Center for Service’s mission is to make an impact in the community, on campus and to students themselves as they learn more about what a community needs to serve their people.

Students are able to earn one general elective credit for every 40 hours they serve in the community through Center for Service approved projects. A student can earn up to three credits through this process (120 total hours.) Academic credit is earned by attending orientation, doing project and service learning experience surveys, writing a reflection and response paper and having a final debriefing with the director for each credit.

The Center for Service is looking for agencies, businesses and organizations to partner with the program and its students to serve in the community through group or individual projects. Projects can be on-site or virtual.
