Winter Storm Uri Recovery
Urban Harvest’s network of affiliate gardens spans over 100 miles and represent diversified, productive greenspaces. With 54% of Urban Harvest affiliate gardens located in Low Income/Low Access neighborhoods and 63% of School gardens located in Title 1 schools, affiliate gardens play a large role in increasing access to fresh, local produce. In 2020 alone, affiliate gardens donated over 136,318 pounds of organic vegetables to food pantries and meal centers, creating the potential for 113,600 meals.
With Winter Storm Uri devastating gardens across Houston, gardens will be unable to share their bounty with the community members most in need of healthy food, eliminating a vital source of fresh produce for many.
We are asking for your help to revitalize gardens by cleaning out beds and preparing for next season's planting.
